uCart
The uCart is a device that focuses on improving a customer’s shopping experience with efficiency, access to a store’s data, and web connectivity. The device connects to any shopping cart and includes a touchscreen, barcode scanner, and credit card reader. A user of the uCart will reduce the overall time required for a shopping trip thanks to the self-checkout feature, which allows the shopper to scan items and pay for them without ever waiting at a checkout aisle. If a customer cannot easily find an item, the uCart can show where an item is located on a map.
An additional component of the uCart is a web application that runs on any computer or mobile device, which lets a shopper create a shopping list before reaching the store. This shopping list will sync with the cart device and display on the touchscreen upon checking in. Not only will the uCart provide a faster and more personal experience for shoppers, it will provide stores with data on their customers and advertising opportunities by collecting information about the types of products purchased and routes walked in the store. A store could use the data collected from the uCart to optimize store layout and promote certain items. Additionally, the mobile app will include a coupons section, so stores will be able to advertise products to customers.
The goal of the uCart is to make the shopping experience smoother for customers, so that they will make more purchases more quickly in the store, as well as to provide stores a way to learn about shopper’s spending habits.
